General Task 1: A job enquiry (formal)

General Task 1 174 words 1 min read

Task

You saw an advertisement for a part-time job at a language school. Write a letter to the manager. In your letter: say why you are interested in the job, describe your relevant experience, and ask about the working hours.

Band 7.5 answer

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to your advertisement for a part-time teaching assistant, which I saw on your website last week.

I am particularly interested in this position because I am planning to become a teacher and would like to gain experience in a classroom. I have always enjoyed helping others learn, and I believe your school has an excellent reputation.

I am currently in my final year of a degree in English literature. For the past two years, I have volunteered as a conversation partner at a community centre, where I help adult learners practise speaking. I also have experience of preparing worksheets and presentations.

I would be grateful if you could tell me more about the working hours. In particular, I would like to know whether the post involves evenings or weekends, as I have lectures on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

I have enclosed my CV and would be happy to attend an interview at any time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,
Linh Tran
