General Task 1: A noise complaint (semi-formal)

General Task 1 177 words 1 min read

Task

You live in a flat and your neighbour plays loud music late at night. Write a letter to your neighbour. In your letter: describe the problem, explain how it affects you, and say what you would like them to do.

Band 7.0 answer

Dear Mr Collins,

I hope you are well. I am writing about a matter that has been troubling me recently, and I hope we can resolve it in a friendly way.

For the past two weeks, music has been coming from your flat late at night, often until after midnight. I am sure you do not intend to disturb anyone, but the sound travels easily through the floor.

This has been affecting me because I leave for work at six in the morning, and I have not been sleeping properly. Last Thursday I was so tired that I made a mistake at work and had to stay late to correct it.

I would be very grateful if you could turn the volume down after ten o'clock, or use headphones in the evening. If there is a particular night when you would like to have friends over, please let me know in advance, and I will do my best to be understanding.

Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Anna Reyes
