A four-week plan to improve Listening
Admin1 November 2026 1 min read
Short daily sessions work better than one long weekly session. Here is a plan that takes about 30 minutes a day.
Week 1: accuracy
Do one section a day. After each, read the script and find every answer you missed.
Week 2: dictation
Choose a short recording and write exactly what you hear. Compare it with the script. This trains your ear for weak sounds such as -ed endings and the linking into the next word.
Week 3: question types
Focus on one type each day:
- Forms and notes
- Multiple choice
- Maps and plans
- Matching
- Sentence completion
Notice what traps each uses.
Week 4: full tests
Take two timed tests. Count how many of your errors are spelling, plurals or numbers, since these are the easiest to fix.
Weekly rhythm
| Day | Task |
|---|---|
| Mon to Fri | The week's focus, 25 minutes |
| Saturday | Repeat the hardest recording of the week |
| Sunday | Rest, or listen to something you enjoy in English |
