What a band 8.5 answer sounds like
The place I'd like to talk about is a small fishing village on the coast of Portugal, which I visited with two close friends a couple of summers ago. We'd been working very hard that year, so the plan was simply to do as little as possible.
What struck me first was how unhurried everything felt. The village has one main street, a handful of cafes, and a harbour where the boats come in around mid-afternoon. We rented a tiny apartment above a bakery, and every morning I was woken by the smell of fresh bread, which, honestly, is a pretty good way to start the day.
Most of our time was spent very simply. We'd walk along the cliffs in the morning, swim in the afternoon, and then go down to the harbour to buy whatever the fishermen had caught. One evening an elderly man who ran a stall insisted on teaching us how to grill sardines properly, and we ended up eating with his family on the quayside.
I think I remember it so clearly because it was the first time in a long while that I didn't feel I had to be somewhere else. Usually on holiday I try to fit in as many sights as possible, but there, I learned that doing less can actually be more restful, and a lot more memorable. I've been trying, with mixed success, to bring that attitude back into my everyday life.
