Band 8.0 answer
The table compares the proportion of households with internet access in Norway, Brazil, India and Kenya in 2005 and 2020.
Overall, access rose in every country over the fifteen years, but the increase was most dramatic in the countries that started from the lowest base, and Norway remained well ahead throughout.
In 2005, Norway was already highly connected, with 69% of households online, whereas the figures for the other three countries were far lower: 14% in Brazil, 3% in India and just 2% in Kenya. By 2020, Norway had reached 98%, which means that nearly every household had access, an increase of 29 percentage points.
The largest gains were seen in Brazil, where access rose from 14% to 83%, an increase of almost 70 points. India and Kenya also grew sharply, to 52% and 41% respectively. These increases, however, were smaller in absolute terms than Brazil's: by 2020 Kenya still had fewer than half of its households online, while India was only just over half.
In conclusion, the gap between Norway and the other countries narrowed considerably, although it had not disappeared by 2020.
