Band 7.0 answer
The pie charts compare the way an average household in one country divided its income among six categories in 1995 and 2015.
Overall, spending on housing and leisure grew, whereas food and clothing took up a smaller share of the budget. Housing was the largest category in both years.
In 1995, housing made up 28% of spending, just ahead of food at 25%. Twenty years later, the gap had widened considerably, with housing rising to 34% and food falling to 17%. Clothing showed the sharpest relative decline, halving from 12% to 6%.
Meanwhile, leisure increased from 10% to 14%, and the share spent on other items rose by three percentage points to 14%. Transport remained the most stable category, at 14% and then 15%.
